June Astrology Highlights – “Dancing with the Stars”

June gets off to a crazed start, just coming out of Uranus entering Aries, and both Saturn and Neptune still stationary as both giants are changing direction. Saturn turns direct to move back toward Libra after a dip back into Virgo starting April 8^th – Saturn will reenter Libra on July 21^st. Neptune stations just before the last degree of Aquarius, and backs further into the sign, not to enter Pisces until next year. Compassionate, mystical, idealistic, illusory, sometimes deceptive Neptune is further intensified being conjunct Black Moon Lilith, so there is much shadowdancing and likely projections to keep us spinning, and hopefully, grinning… should we mention the massive oil gushing in the Gulf of Mexico as a manifestation of this?

So that’s just how the month starts. Does it give us a rest then? Ah, no. Chiron, “wounded healer,” maverick, bridging between Saturn and Uranus, the inner personal planets and the outer transpersonal planets, also begins June stationary poised to turn retrograde at zero degrees Pisces on June 4^th. At the same time, fiery, ego-driven Mars in Leo opposes elusive Neptune, and these very different energies bring possible confusion, and a need for a bit of a time out. Then on June 6^th, expansive, indulgent Jupiter enters Aries to join Uranus, then to cool the fire just a bit, on June 7^th Mars finally leaves Leo, where it has been since last October, to enter practical Virgo. That brings us to the end of the first week of the month…

Jupiter and Uranus make their first conjunction at zero Aries, on the universal/Aries axis, on the 8^th, moving into place for the upcoming cardinal square, which astrologers have been anticipating for a few years now. It’s getting tense and volatile, and while there is much breakdown, there is also much breakthrough. The new Moon on June 12^th at 21 Gemini activates the nodal axis and makes an agreeable trine to the public midheaven in Denver, while Venus makes a stabilizing trine to Saturn, so this one dances between the hot spots. Then Venus enters showy Leo on the 14^th, and makes exciting trines to Uranus then Jupiter in Aries, while Mars trines powerful Pluto. The temptation is to go for reckless abandon, indulgence, immediate gratification, and ego-driven impulses toward power, but it’s advisable to utilize the energies in a positive, productive way, not for excess that you will soon regret. The time for excess is over. It’s time for us to learn that more is not better, only better is better; bigger is not better, only better is better. Use discernment and prioritize, and you can make some good ground here. The Sun squaring Saturn on the 19^th will put on the brakes soon enough, though with the Sun also trining Neptune, we might not notice! It’s a good time for creative inspiration and structure.

The summer solstice is when the Sun enters Cancer on June 21^st, tightly conjunct the Denver ascendent and the uranian transneptunian Hades, adding energy to the cardinal axis that comes to strength on the big event of the month, the lunar eclipse at 4 Capricorn 46 on June 26^th. Whoosh! What an eclipse this is!! In contrast to the mild new Moon two weeks earlier, this one is truly a heavy hitter. For Denver, the Sun is on the ascendant conjunct agile Mercury, and the uranian transneptunian Kronos, which relates to leadership, power and authority, and the law. All this is in opposition to the Moon just minutes away from Pluto on the descendent conjunct the asteroid of death, loss and music, Orpheus, in the 7^th house of marriage and partnership, one-to-one bonded relationships, and open enemies. This loaded opposition closely squares Jupiter and Uranus in Aries in the visible, public 10^th house, in an out of sign opposition to Saturn in Virgo in the 4^th house of family and foundation. Astrologers have been speculating about this eclipse for a long time… we may see more Earth changes and volatility and other chaos. More may come apart or break down, and more will transition. It is also likely that a lot more corruption will come to light, as this eclipse is going to impact those in leadership positions. Wow. Part of what is happening is that the Earth herself is undergoing a rebirth and ascension process, and much is being cleared…

Mayday! Mayday! Ok, so that was a bit dramatic, but the lovely month of May does hold a bit of drama…

May begins with Mercury continuing its retrograde (Rx) movement, and just pulling away from the 4^th of 5 exact passes of Saturn opposing Uranus, so there is tension between the urge to hold onto familiar old habits and the relentless force demanding we change… we can try to resist (resistance is futile!) or dance with the changes and go with the flow. A thought about going with the flow, however… sometimes, the flow is what we tend to think of as going with the flow as a relatively brisk, comfortable pace. But sometimes the flow is a trickle, or like a meandering river that may even seem to go backwards at times. And sometimes the flow is whitewater rafting, or flying over waterfalls! With Mercury Rx, the flow may feel like pressure getting through a bottleneck, straining to move forward, but with some delays, confusion, and obstacles, and lots of changes and needed adaptations along the way. Have patience…

Mercury turns Rx continues Rx until May 11^th, then give it a few days to build up a bit of forward momentum, and then communications and technology should be smoother, just in time for the new Moon in Taurus on May 13^th. This new Moon has a nice stabilizing trine to Saturn which has retrograded back into Virgo; the opportunities that the 60 degree sextiles bring to the very auspicious Jupiter and Uranus in late Pisces; the potential illusion and confusion but also idealism of the square to Neptune in Aquarius. The new Moon is also conjunct the ‘malevolent’ fixed star Algol, so please don’t lose your head about anything, ok?

The 3^rd week of May has Venus fancy dancing all over the place before she leaves fickle Gemini to pirouette into sensitive, emotional Cancer on the 19^th. Her dance starts with an indulgent square to Jupiter, an uh-oh-I-over-did-it lockdown square to Saturn, then a dreamy, idealistic and illusionary trine to Neptune, then kick-up-your-heels exciting square to Uranus, all in three days before entering Cancer. Mercury trines Pluto at the same time, which is great for research and focus, and oh, maybe a little obsessiveness… The next day, on the 20^th, the Sun makes an intuitive sparking sextile to Uranus then pops into lively Gemini.

After Jupiter opposes Saturn late on the 22^nd – expand or contract? Generous and indulgent, or austere and frugal? On Sunday the 23rd Venus opposes Pluto. Please do not stalk your beloved, ok? Obsession, passion, intensity, but it can also be quite creative and inspired.

The last five days of the month have enormous activity, with Uranus entering volatile Aries on May 27^th, the day of the full Moon. Be ready for major shifts and activations as the planet of chaos but also cosmic consciousness activates the universal axis and the increasing cardinal cross, moving toward the square to Pluto and the opposition to Saturn. Then heeding that call, Saturn stations in late Virgo on the 30^th, slowing turning direct to begin its several month trek moving back toward Libra, and the following day Neptune stations turning retrograde on the threshold at the end of Aquarius, to remain in that sign for the rest of the year.

May is quite a month! Enjoy the spring flowers and new life all around, and dance with the energies with joy, creativity, compassion and humor… Again, remember that what you focus on becomes more real and expands, so rise in gratitude, stay in heart, and enjoy all the opportunities the month has to offer. April Astrology Highlights – “Dancing with the Stars”

The first week of April throws a lot of curves and quick changes, but we won’t be made fools of, will we? The month begins with Pluto, the lord of transformation, but also power and the abuse of it, stationary until the 12^th ready to turn retrograde (Rx), which it will be until mid-September. This offers many shifts and changes, and opportunities to try again to Get It Right regarding values and priorities, and more letting go of past patterns. Mercury flies out of Aries and settles into far more grounded and methodical Taurus on the 2^nd, so hopefully things won’t feel quite so hectic – but be forewarned, the little trickster turns Rx two weeks later, on the 17^th, for three weeks. More on that below…

Venus in her own sign of sensuous Taurus squares Mars in lofty Leo on the 3^rd, and passions will run deep, and so might willfulness – and “won’tfulness” in these stubborn fixed signs. It could be a lot of fun though. Then immediately, on a very early Easter Sunday on the 4th, Venus trines Pluto, increasing passion and possessiveness, while Mercury squares Mars, causing potential irritability, arguments and accidents, so be careful driving while eating that chocolate Easter egg… Pluto makes its exact station at the waning quarter Moon on the 6^th, which has the Moon in practical Capricorn minutes from the north node square to the Sun happy in impulsive Aries – “ready, fire, aim!” Pluto is still closely trining Mercury conjunct Venus, which is positive and prosperous, tho still with some restraint as Pluto continues to square Saturn. Saturn, however, retrogrades out of Libra on the 7^th, back for a final visit in Virgo until it reenters Libra in late July, easing the tension on the Aries axis we’ve had for months.

So that’s the first week of April!

The new Moon on April 14^th is exactly on the ascendant for Denver, a good time to initiate new projects and activities. The Sun and Moon are also closely conjunct the new “dwarf planet” Eris, named for the goddess of chaos and discord, so remember to exercise your individuality and uniqueness! You do not need to color inside the lines that anyone else draws for you… Venus trines Jupiter on on Saturday, April 17, bringing luck, optimism, and temptation to overindulgence and extravagance. But as mentioned above, Mercury turns Rx that same day and continues Rx until May 11^th, and for that duration, delays, miscommunications, technological and mechanical breakdowns are more likely, so plan ahead when possible. It’s not the best time to begin things, buy new technology or sign contracts, and surgery then is best avoided or delayed, if possible. It is a good time to finish old projects, for introspection, and to reassess goals.

The Sun enters earthy Taurus on the 19^th, and Venus makes a quick flurry of aspects, first squaring Neptune for a dose of romantic idealism, inspiration and illusion, then making a flirty 60-degree sextile of opportunity with sparky Uranus on the 23^rd, then slowing to a more responsible and grounded trine to Saturn before leaving Taurus and entering airy and fickle Gemini on the 24^th.

The Scorpio full Moon on April 28^th opposes the Sun in Taurus tightly conjunct Mercury Rx, squaring Mars in prideful Leo, and stubborn willfulness will be running high, so try to have some fluidity and flexibility, and as always, compassion and humor… remember that what you focus on becomes more real and expands, so put your best heartful thoughts forward, and make the most of all the opportunities the month has to offer. I was invited to write a few paragraphs for an upcoming book by Michael Smith about what 2012 means to me... this is what I submitted, which is an abbreviated form of an article I'm writing... stay tuned for that one:

What does 2012 mean to me?

I am a professional astrologer of many years, a spiritual counselor and healer, and a sound healing practitioner and teacher. I have always been an empath who is more attuned to universal energies than most, and this influences my readings and my work. I have a passion for harmonics…the sacred resonant mathematical ratios of relationship, of proportion in design, of interval, as they manifest in music, voice, astrology, and sacred geometry. The same principles carry through with continuity…

Everyone is full of anticipation about 2012, there are so many questions! What will happen then?? Will it be the end of the world? Can I stop paying my credit card bills? But from what I see, what will happen in 2012 is heavily dependent on what we do and how we are now, and the trajectory of our path in how we live our lives and evolve in our consciousness right now. From an astrological perspective, this major shift in intensification and acceleration has been increasing for a few years now, and 2010 is the most challenging year. We are being called to let go of our old conditioning and habituation, to confront and transform the abuse of power, and to move beyond dualistic thinking and perceiving – the past ends now! The most important thing is to not fall into fear, because fear sucks the energy right out of you, and cuts you off from the light. When we are aligned with universal energy and flow, we are in our creativity and light, and the way forward is shown.

Did you know that astronomers are discovering new planets in our solar system? We have new ‘dwarf planets’ in Eris, Makemake, Haumea, and at the farthest reaches of the solar system, Sedna. Newly discovered planets indicate new aspects of consciousness coming into potentiality and awareness. It’s time for us to make a major quantum leap in consciousness! Inthe midst of many intense astrological challenges happening, something very subtle but highly significant happened in 2009. Neptune returned to its discovery degree for the first time since its discovery in 1846. What this tells me is that Neptune, the planet of universal compassion, is showing us the way forward. We must move beyond our dissociation, our dualistic, competitive sense of self-entitlement, not to lose our individuality, but to move forward with it into realization that we are interdependent,all cells on this same Earth mother body, and to work responsibly in cooperation and compassion in Oneness consciousness.

The traditional geocentric astrological chart for December21, 2012 shows struggle and chaos, revolution and indulgence. But the more spiritually focused heliocentric chart, with the Sun, not the Earth at the center, harmonizes the chaos into a flow of mindful creative restructuring, idealism and bridging, and leadership and core level authenticity, and yes, compassion. The key is in harmonic solar/’soul-ar’ soul-centered emergence and ascension, and for those who have done their work and are prepared to rise with it, it will be transformative, transcendent, healing, and full of beauty and wonder.

March Astrology Highlights – “Dancing with the Stars”

The spring equinox month of March begins with Mercury, the speedy messenger planet of communication, entering Pisces on March 1^st. Mercury joins the Sun, Venus, Jupiter and Uranus, now giving us five planets in the watery mutable sign. Idealism, compassion, emotion and confusion abound! Almost immediately, on March 3^rd Venus conjuncts Uranus, triggering surprises, magnetism, breakthroughs, sudden intuition, love at first sight.

But you knew things weren’t quite that easy, didn’t you? Have you noticed frustrations, blockages and delays, and stress in relationships? Our two retrograde planets, the heavies Mars and Saturn, continue to trudge slowly backwards locked in a sixty degree sextile of opportunity, which now Mercury as the last of the Pisces planets takes its turn activating a stressful yod, or ‘finger of God’ aspect. Yods gently – okay, make that relentlessly,demand awareness and adaptation. Hurry up and wait! One foot on the gas, the other on the brakes!

Venus enters impulsive Aries on the 7^th,and quickly opposes serious Saturn on the 9^th, calling for a sense of patience and responsibility – and Aries is not known for patience, shall we say? The key phrase for Aries is‘ready, fire, aim!’ But things might be feeling pretty intense around then, especially as on March 10^th,fiery Mars in fiery Leo, finally comes to a full halt finishing its retrograde movement, to slowly resume forward, direct motion. Mars has been retrograde (Rx) since December20^th, and finally, much that has been held in frustration and delaywill start to release and open. Those of you who keep asking (and you know who you are) yes, it will finally be ok to have first sex in a relationship, which is considered best to avoid during Mars Rx. I’d give Mars a few days to start to build momentum, though, and it won’t be fully out of its ‘shadow’ – the degree at which it turned Rx – till mid-May. But yes, after the 10th,frolic on!

Don’t forget that daylight savings time begins on Sunday, March 14^th- spring is near at hand! The new Moon on March 15^th brings our planet in Pisces count back up to five,with the Moon joining the Sun, Mercury, all in a close conjunction, and Jupiter not far behind. Here is a time for compassion, sensitivity, spiritual seeking. Then Mercury enters Aries on the 17^th and quickly trines Mars and opposes Saturn. Watch out for arguments and resistance.

This new Moon sets the foundational energies for the spring equinox on Saturday, March 20^th at10:32am. The equinox chart shows a lot of motivation and possible discipline (and frustration and impatience) with the Sun trining Mars but also closely opposing Saturn, both squaring powerful Pluto in Capricorn. Be smart, be efficient,be organized, be prepared for your patience to be tested. And watch more power plays unfold on the national and international stage as well as around you. The equinox chart for Denver has the uranian transneptunian Hades smack on the ascendant. Ashes to ashes, some things will break down, time to release what has outlived its usefulness… acceptance…

The full Moon on March 29^thhas the Sun in Aries opposing Moon in Libra, past Saturn in that sign, still close enough to the square to Pluto to pay attention. This is softened by Pisces Venus in sweet sextile to Neptune conjunct Chiron. There is idealism, the possibility of romantic longing, and some spark with Chiron involved.

March is a month with a lot of both water and fire, and opportunity to practice greater balance and harmony between inner feeling and outer expression. Have a beautiful, spring awakening, as the light and so consciousness continues to rise. Blessings!

February Astrology Highlights – “Dancing with the Stars”

After so many intensive planetary changes over the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010, February is finally a far simpler month, as far as planetary phenomena goes. No more eclipses (‘eek-lipses’!) or planets turning retrograde (Rx) or direct this month. Mars and Saturn continue Rx throughout the month, and, okay, they can be a little intense or heavy at times, but even they are separating from recent challenging alignments, as Mars was just conjunct the full Moon on January 29^th, and Saturn’s Rx movement has it pulling out of orb of the extremely difficult exact square to Pluto in effect at the start of the month. We’ve talked about this square… Saturn is responsibility, limitation, structure and boundaries, and Pluto relates to power and the abuse of it, but on a higher level is surrender to spirit – surrender not in the sense of giving up (though many are) but surrender in the sense of letting go of resistance, and aligning with universal flow. We are ready for a break from that planetary squeeze!

There are even indicators of some sweetness, just in time for Valentine’s Day, as Venus, the planet of love, creativity and magnetism enters Pisces, her sign of exaltation, on February 11^th. Pisces is emotional and creative, the sign of compassion, sensitivity, and empathy (ok, and addictions, victimization and cons)

Valentine’s Day weekend is the big news for the month. The new Moon the evening of February 13^that 8:51 pmhere in Denver has the Sun and Moon at 25 degrees of Aquarius, very tightly conjunct Chiron and Neptune at 26 Aquarius – wow! Aquarius is the sign of the visionary, intuitive and detached. Neptune is highlighted as it has just crossed its discovery degree for the first time since its discovery in 1846. Also, Neptune in Aquarius, the sign ruled by Uranus, has been in mutual reception with Uranus in Pisces, the sign ruled by Neptune, since 2003. When two planets are in each other’s sign in mutual reception like that, it creates an interactive alliance between them, sort of like if I were living in your house and you were living in mine, and neither of us was paying rent. Neptune in its highest expression is the planet of universal compassion, and with this lunation with Sun, Moon, and Chiron there, compassion is the key. After challenges to power and the development of individuality to the point of separatist dualistic vision at best, and self-serving, narcissistic dissociation at the worst, it’s time for us to have the vision and the heart to recognize and embrace Oneness consciousness – we are all cells of this great Earth mother’s body… Venus is nearly conjunct Jupiter (on the 16^th), which entered Pisces last month – both planets are beautifully placed in Pisces, and the Sun joins them in Pisces on the 18th. Venus also forms a dynamic 60 degree sextile aspect to Pluto, adding spark and passion along with potential depth and transformation. Exquisite! Also this year, Valentine’s Day (the day of the new Moon for much of the planet) is Chinese New Year and Tibetan New Year, or Losar! Happy New Year/Losar, year of the Golden (metal) Tiger!

The full Moon on February 28^th at just under 10 Virgo has the Sun exactly conjunct Jupiter in Pisces, and Venus almost catching up to Uranus later in the sign, later in the week. Venus and Uranus are magic, magnetism, sudden intuition, love at first sight. Because of time zone differences, a curiosity in February is that for most of the Asian/Pacific time zones, February will not have a full Moon!
